Why choose Silk over Satin?
❌A synthetic, manmade fabric (polyester/nylon)
❌Chemically based - nylon and polyester satin are derived from petroleum, or oil.
❌As a synthetic fibre; it is not sustainable or environmentally friendly to produce. As a natural fibre, real silk is biodegradable and not made with any dangerous chemicals or fossil fuels.
Why choose Silk over Cotton?
❌No matter how high the thread count will always produce frizzy, tangled hair.
❌Wicks away moisture that is detrimental to hair health.
❌As damaging as a cotton bath towel.
❌Soaks up oils and product that coat your hair and break you out.
The Difference is Clear. Switch to Silk!
FAQs
What is “Momme”?
Momme is a form of weight measurement that is used for silk, often compared to how other fabrics are measures in thread count. Pronounced “mom-ee” and abbreviated as “mm”. Silk fabric that is less than 20mm is considered lightweight. Silks products that are made of 19mm silk equates to a 600 thread count and 22mm silk that parallels to a 900 thread count.
Why is Silk safer than Cotton or Polyester Fabric?
Being a protein based fiber, silk does not burn in the same way that cotton or synthetics. Silk burns very slowly and is more resistant to even light. It is self-extinguishing and gives out little or no smoke.
Mulberry Silk uses only environmentally-safe dyes and all products are OEKO-TEX Certified (Standard 100) to be free of chemicals.
Why is Silk Good for Hair and Skin?
Similar in structure to natural hair, silk contains naturally occurring amino acids. Silk is naturally hypo-allergenic and due to it's natural resistance to moisture will not allow mildew or fungus to grow and will not pick up as much pore-clogging bacteria as cotton does. This makes silk an ideal option for those with acne or breakout prone skin. Silk is great for those with allergies since dust mites do not survive on silk. Because of silk’s smooth, soft surface, delicate skin and hair follicles gently glide across the surface making it perfect for those with sensitive skin or conditions such as Eczema or Psoriasis. Silk allows hair to retain moisture that promotes more healthy and even growth.
Silk versus Satin, What’s the difference?
Silk is a natural protein fibre while Satin is typically made of synthetic fibres such as polyester or nylon. Polyester is essentially a fabric that is created from oil and has the same chemical composition as plastic bottles. Synthetic Satin and Natural Silk have a very different feel against the skin. Polyester Satin is more slippery with a distinct texture while Natural silk is softer in feel and the Charmeuse weave offers a more subtle reduction in friction. Unlike Synthetic fabrics, Silk is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to mold, mildew, fungus and dust mites.
